  Walleye Madness

Koester and Rhodes repeat as Walleye Madness Champs!
Jeff Koester of Brookville, IN and Scott Rhodes of Traverse City, MI won the Walleye Madness tournament for the second year in a row! Koester and Rhodes beat out Steve Skupien of Frankfort, IL and Dave Kleszyk of Oakbrook Terrace, IL to hold on to the title of Walleye Madness Champions. The Walleye Madness tournament was built within the MWC East Division Port Clinton tournament, so the Sweet Sixteen teams were actually participating in two tournaments at once. The Walleye Madness tournament was a bracketed tournament where you just had to have more weight than the team you were competing against to move on.

The first day’s weigh-in reduced the field from sixteen teams down to the Elite Eight. Pressure built on day two of the tournament as teams battled to get into the Final Four. The Final Four pitted Skupien and Kleszyk against Jay Walsh of Chicago, IL and Dave Gossar of Wedron, IL. Skupien and Kleszyk prevailed as they put 10.09 lbs of fish in the boat as Walsh and Gossar zeroed. Koester and Rhodes went up against Don Olson of Andover, MN and Randy Carroll of Oswego, IL. Koester and Rhodes bested Olson/Carroll by 3.64 lbs. In the Championship round, Koester and Rhodes ousted Skupien and Kleszyk by 3.42 lbs.; enough to hold on to their title as the reigning Walleye Madness Champions and earn themselves $10,000.

2007 Walleye Madness
WALLEYE MADNESS invaded Port Clinton, OH on May 10th, 11th and 12th, and what a mad and crazy three days it was! The field started off with 16 of the best Cabela’s MWC anglers, having qualified for the Sweet Sixteen through the 2006 season and the 2007 Spring Valley tournament. They were bracketed against each other, so it didn’t matter if you had the biggest weight, you just had to have a bigger weight than the team you were competing against.

Day one reduced the field down to the Elite Eight, which were sent out again on day two to reduce the field down to the Final Four. The Final Four were:
